The squad lost four wickets before scoring 100 runs. Mendis scored 56 runs off 31 deliveries, while Janith Liyanage added 78 runs off 85 deliveries. However, the remaining hitters did not contribute significantly to the team’s success. Sri Lanka were swept out for 232 runs and lost by 16 runs.

Tanvir Islam was Bangladesh’s most successful bowler. The left-arm spinner made his ODI debut in the opening match and took a wicket in only his second. He received the Player of the Match award for his bowling effort. It was the best performance by a Bangladeshi bowler against Sri Lanka.
