ENG vs IND 2025: Dinesh Karthik compares ontrasts wicketkeeping techniques of Rishabh Pant and Dhruv Jurel

Dhruv Jurel has been praised by fans and experienced cricketers for his wicketkeeping abilities since replacing the injured Rishabh Pant midway through Day 1 of the Lord's Test. The latter injured his left index finger while attempting to collect a delivery down the thigh. Jurel, who has played four Test matches, has taken over as wicketkeeper since Pant walked off the pitch. Ahead of Day 2, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) stated on social media that Pant's fitness will be monitored by team medics, while Jurel will continue to keep wickets for the Shubman Gill-led team. On Day 1, Jurel wowed cricket purists with his wicketkeeping technique, taking a superb catch off Ravindra Jadeja's delivery to send Ollie Pope back to the hut. The ball spun swiftly, and Pope acquired a thick edge, forcing Jurel to use quick reactions to get his gloves into the appropriate position. Dinesh Karthik, a former India wicketkeeper, praised Jurel's technique and stance before comparing his differences to Pant. Karthik examined the technical components of Jurel's catch and compared it to Pant's technique on a similar ball. According to his research, Pant's movements were too rapid, causing him to miss the ball, whereas Jurel's movements were more controlled and coordinated, allowing him to perform the fantastic catch that got rid of Pope. "The position of the right leg determines in many ways how well your head is in relation to the glove," Karthik told Sky Sports. "Dhruv Jurel is a lot lower and closer to the keeping pads, as well as in height, than Pant," the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) batting coach and mentor added. While Jurel will be able to keep wickets for Pant, the Agra-born will not be allowed to bat in place of the Indian vice-captain. Fans will be concerned about Pant's injury as his batting is an important part of India's plans.
