The third day of the ongoing Test match between India and England concluded on a hot note, with emotions rising between England opener Zak Crawley and the Indian team. With India hitting 387 in their first innings, which matched England’s score, the match stayed equal, with neither team holding a first-inning advantage.
England scored two runs as they came out to bat with only one over remaining in the day. Jasprit Bumrah took the new ball for India, but Crawley paused his run-up midway through the over, causing frustration among the Indian fielders. The visitors were already dissatisfied, feeling that England was purposefully stalling time to ensure little action before stumps.
Crawley fuelled the flames by coming around the pitch between deliveries to clean something off the surface, further delaying proceedings and announcing that no more overs will be bowled on Day 3. This prompted an outcry from the Indian players.
Indian captain Shubman Gill was heard shouting from the slips, and other fielders also expressed their displeasure with Zak Crawley.
Tensions rose further on the fifth delivery of the over, when a full-length ball from Bumrah struck Crawley in the hand as he attempted to defend it. Crawley summoned the physio, prompting a sarcastic ovation from the Indian team. Gill dashed up to Crawley and appeared to motion towards the pavilion. Crawley replied, and England opener Ben Duckett became embroiled in the heated dispute.
Eventually, the over was finished with one last delivery before stumps were called. The Indian players returned disappointed with the time squandered during that one-over session.
Always annoying when you can’t get another over in before close 🙄 pic.twitter.com/3Goknoe2n5
