The third Test between India and England at the renowned Lord’s Cricket Ground in London is precariously poised, with the hosts needing 135 runs to win and the tourists looking for six wickets. The winner will have a 2-1 lead going into the final two Test matches in Manchester and London.
In the last session of Day 4, India lost four wickets in 17.4 overs while chasing a 193-run mark on a difficult pitch. KL Rahul remained undefeated on 33 from 47 deliveries, while Yashasvi Jaiswal, Karun Nair, Shubman Gill, and Akash Deep were eliminated. India are 58/4 at Stumps on Day 4.
Former India skipper Anil Kumble believes Rahul will be the difference for the Asian giants on the last day of the Test match. While some observers believe the Karnataka player would need to get the visitors off to a solid start on Day 5, Kumble remarked that the opening batter must not only start well but also anchor the innings to the end.
“KL Rahul will be the major man.
If India is to surpass this total tomorrow, he must be present to the end, not just give India a good start,” Kumble stated on JioHotstar.
The former Indian head coach noted that Rahul had a scratchy start and was fortunate to get an early reprieve when Chris Woakes put down a catch. But after the let-off, Rahul looked far more assured at the crease.
“Early on, I thought he looked a bit like Joe Root, reaching out to the ball, and that’s when there was a chance offered to Chris Woakes. He was lucky to be dropped. But from that moment on, he started waiting for the ball to come onto him, and once he did that, he looked the part, just like he did in the first innings,” Kumble explained.
