Shubman Gill believed that Rishabh Pant’s run-out on Day 3 of the just finished third Test of the ongoing five-match series between England and India was the game-changing event. Pant, who looked poised at the crease in India’s first innings, was caught just short of it while attempting to steal a quick single.
Gill said Pant’s removal after scoring 74 off 112 impacted the rest of the Indian innings, preventing them from gaining a decisive advantage ahead of England’s second innings.
🗣️”5 minutes cannot define 5 days of hard work.”

“5 minutes can’t define the 5 days of grind. If I see moments (from this game), I think that’s not in my top 5 moments. The most important moment was Rishabh’s run-out. We could have gotten a lead to 50 or 100. We knew it was not going to be easy to bat on this wicket on the fifth day. So, the amount of lead we got to in the 1st innings, it would have been better for us as a team. I think that was a very important moment; if you take a lead, then the other team is on the back foot,” shared Gill after the conclusion of the match.
Could have handled the pressure significantly better than we did: Shubman Gill
While conceding that the batters may have adjusted better to the difficult situation in the later stages, Gill believed the final session of the fourth day and the opening hour of the fifth day were where they fell short.
“By the third day, both teams were equal. Obviously, the team batting well from that position puts pressure on the team pursuing the score. We were unable to get runs from the top-order in the final hour of play yesterday (Day 4) or the first hour today (Day 5). It happens occasionally. There was pressure on us, and I believe we could have handled it better than we did,” he said.
Despite a valiant effort, India ended up on the losing side by 22 runs. Gill & Co. would look to make amends in the upcoming fourth match at Old Trafford and level the series by winning the eagerly-awaited contest.
