ENG vs IND 2025: ‘I’ll do everything to be on the plane in November’ – Jofra Archer eyes Ashes after Test return

I guess everyone spoke today. It was great that everyone... We travelled in a bunch. No matter whether it wasn't simply the bowler "Archer responded.

ENG vs IND 2025: 'I'll do everything to be on the plane in November' - Jofra Archer eyes Ashes after Test return

England pacer Jofra Archer has underlined his desire to play in this winter’s Ashes series, following a spectacular return to Test cricket in England’s thrilling 22-run victory over India at Lords. Archer, who had been out of red-ball cricket for more than four years owing to recurring elbow and back ailments, had an immediate impact in his return match.

The 30-year-old struck with only his third delivery of the match and went on to take five wickets in each innings, finishing with total statistics of 5 for 105. He bowled 39.2 overs with speeds averaging approximately 145kph and above, demonstrating both endurance and rhythm.

He now has a week off until the fourth Test at Old Trafford, which begins on July 23. Archer emphasised his desire to play both remaining Tests in the ongoing Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy, although he recognised that the team’s management is still monitoring his bowling effort until December.

“I can play the other two [against India] if they allow me. I do not want to loose this series. I told Keysey [England men’s managing director Rob Key] that I wanted to play both the Test summer and the Ashes. I believe one tick has already been placed, and I will do all in my ability to be on the aircraft in November,” Archer remarked, as reported by.

The bowler’s debut under the leadership of captain Ben Stokes and head coach Brendon McCullum could not have gone better. The pacer expressed happiness that the long and gruelling recuperation process had finally paid off.

“Obviously, Test cricket would have taken the longest to return to. So I’ve been playing 50-over and T20 cricket for the past year, year and a half, or two years. And you always wondered… The team has played some extremely thrilling cricket since Baz [McCullum] took command. I believe the team’s approach under Baz matches the way I want to play cricket. So, you know, I couldn’t wait to get back and do it without being encouraged,” Archer explained.

Archer’s maiden wicket, Yashasvi Jaiswal, taken at slip, ignited an emotional celebration as fans reflected on what the event meant after years away from red-ball internationals. However, the right-arm pacer remained calm and analytical about the significance of the breakthrough.

On day five, Jofra Archer intensity was on full display.

He was visibly enthused, giving emotional send-offs to Rishabh Pant and Washington Sundar after dismissing them at critical points. Along with the captain, he delivered crucial blows that ultimately halted India’s quest of 193, resulting in a stunning victory for England.

“With the slope, that’s how I bowl to lefties anyhow. So it was only a matter of time if I kept bowling like that. “I can’t imagine many left-handers getting away with it,” the Caribbean native added.

“I believe everyone had a word today. It was good that everyone… We travelled together as a pack. And it didn’t matter that it wasn’t just the bowler; you had the entire slip cordon, cover, and mid-off. You had everyone on board with you. “Days like this make Test cricket feel special,” he said.
