India fell agonisingly short of winning the third Test against England at Lord’s Cricket Ground, failing to chase down a 193-run total. The lone fighter was veteran all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja, who scored an unbeaten 61 off 181 balls as India were bowled for 170 in the closing session of Day 5.
Former India captain Sourav Ganguly made a disgruntled figure, believing that the Shubman Gill-led team should have chased down the target, citing Jadeja’s fighting spirit and the quality of the rest of the lineup.
“I’m a little disappointed with how India batted in this series; they should have scored 190,” Ganguly stated at the Indian Racing League & F4 India Championship on Tuesday, July 15.
“When you saw Jadeja fight and score the runs, batting quality in this team, and they will be more disappointed than I am because it was an opportunity to get 2-1 up in the series against England,” according to him.

Jadeja’s contemporaries, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, retired from Test cricket during the Indian Premier League (IPL) this year. The Saurashtra all-rounder, on the other hand, continues to play regularly in the longest format for the Asian giants. Ganguly focused on Jadeja’s experience and recognised him as a key member of the Indian red-ball setup.
“Jadeja has been exceptional, he is going to continue to play for India as long as he bats and performs like this. He has been around for a long time. He has played some 80 Test matches and more than 200 one-day games. You can see him batting, bowling, and fielding. He is a special player, and his batting has really improved over the years with the experience. He is a special player and very important part of this team,” Ganguly said.
