Andre Russell is the second well-known West Indian cricketer to retire from international cricket in recent years. Nicholas Pooran stated in June that he was leaving the international circuit.
Andre Russell, 37, had only played T20Is since 2019.
He concluded with 1078 runs in 84 T20Is, an average of 22 and a strike rate of 163.09. at the ball, he took 61 wickets at an average of 30.59 and an economy rate of 9.31. Aside from that, Russell played one Test and 57 ODIs.
“Words can’t describe what that meant. Representing the West Indies has been one of my proudest moments in life. When I was younger, I never imagined I’d reach this level, but the more you play and fall in love with the sport, the more you realise your potential. This encouraged me to become better because I wanted to leave a mark in the maroon hues and be an inspiration to others,” Russell said in a statement.
“I love playing for the West Indies and I love playing at home in front of my family and friends where I get to showcase my talent and produce more high-quality performances. I want to finish my international career on a high while being a role model for the next generation of cricketers coming out of the Caribbean,” he added.

Russell has been named in the West Indies squad for the first two T20Is in the five-match series against Australia, which begins on Monday, July 21. These two matches will be played at his home ground – Sabina Park in Jamaica. The action will shift to Basseterre, St kitts for the final three T20Is and Matthew Forde will replace Russell in the side for those games.
