Star all-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy is expected to miss the remainder of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy due to a knee ailment. The announcement comes ahead of India’s must-win fourth Test against England at Old Trafford in Manchester.
Nitish Kumar Reddy injury, which occurred during an indoor training session on Sunday, adds to India’s mounting list of injury concerns.
According to a story, the 22-year-old damaged his left knee while working out at the gym, and further tests revealed ligament damage. The specifics of the injury have yet to be established, but early indications suggest that Reddy will miss not just the fourth (July 23-27), but also the final Test.
Previously, the visitors had brought up Anshul Kamboj as injured cover for the pace department. This comes following fitness worries for Akash Deep (groin) and Arshdeep Singh (bowling hand injury), both of whom are doubtful for the Old Trafford match.
After missing the first Test in Leeds, Reddy played the second Test at Edgbaston and the subsequent game at Lord’s. In the third Test, he dismissed England’s openers, Ben Duckett and Zak Crawley, in the same over in the first innings, and Crawley again in the second. He also contributed with the bat, scoring 30 and 13, and hoped to keep his spot in the fourth Test.
Shardul Thakur is viewed as a possible replacement.
However, with the physical setback, India may now consider bringing in Shardul Thakur as a seam-bowling all-rounder. If wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant remains unable to take gloves due to a finger injury, Dhruv Jurel may also be considered.
Meanwhile, Akash Deep, who took 10 wickets in the second Test win at Birmingham, was off his game at Lord’s and is again struggling with fitness. Arshdeep, who appeared like a potential replacement, injured his hand during training and has not bowled since.
With Jasprit Bumrah’s workload carefully monitored and Mohammed Siraj bowling the most overs in the series thus far, India’s fast-bowling resources are restricted. Given the importance of the Manchester Test, team management has stated that Bumrah will most likely return. With England leading the series 2-1, India will need to rebound soon and make some difficult selection decisions. Due to limited resources, the squad may reintroduce pacer Prasidh Krishna into the playing XI.
