After his name was put to the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy alongside Sachin Tendulkar, former English cricketer James Anderson admitted that he does not believe he is of the same calibre as the latter. Anderson’s comments came after the Pataudi Trophy was recently renamed the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy for Tests between England and India.
James Anderson then reflected on how he felt after hearing what the renowned fast bowler had accomplished over his long career.
“I feel absolutely out of place when I see myself next to him with the trophy. As previously stated, I hold him in very high regard. It’s odd how when people talk about what I’ve accomplished in cricket, it sounds like they’re talking about someone else, if that makes sense. I don’t feel like I’m the one who has accomplished everything. It sounds bizarre, but that’s how my mind operates. “I just can’t believe what comes with playing for so long,” Anderson told Sky Sports.
Previously, the 42-year-old stated that it was a wonderful moment for him and his family to see his name paired with Tendulkar on the trophy. This was before England and India’s five-match series began.
In terms of the current series, the hosts enjoy a 2-1 advantage after three matches. India, captained by Shubman Gill, won by 336 runs at Edgbaston to tie the series after losing by five wickets in the first match at Headingley.
However, the third Test of the series at Lord’s went down to the wire and was eventually claimed by England by 22 runs in the final session of the fifth day. The next match will be played at Old Trafford in Manchester from July 23. The visitors will be aiming on levelling the tie once again to make it all to play for in the fifth and final contest at the Oval.
