ENG vs IND 2025: Stuart Broad reveals Mohammed Siraj's nickname in England dressing room

Former England bowler Stuart Broad has stated that the England team, along with Ben Duckett, refers to Mohammed Siraj as ‘Mr. Angry’. The nickname comes from Siraj’s aggressive on-field demeanour, which was especially noticeable during a contentious argument with Duckett in the Lord’s Test. Siraj had offered Duckett a passionate farewell after removing him in the second session. The Pacer was penalised 15% of his match fee by the Match Referee for violating the ICC Code of conduct.

Meanwhile, the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy between England and India is turning out to be an exciting game. As the fifth and final Test enters its third day, both teams are firmly in contention for victory. The match has already included some dramatic moments, including on-field duels between Akash Deep and Duckett, as well as Joe Root and Prasidh Krishna. Tensions rose again at the end of Day 2, when Sai Sudharsan, visibly angered by his expulsion, charged at Duckett in an unusual display of hostility.

“We’re definitely going to see more, yeah, it’s carried on throughout the series. I was actually out in the middle when Ben Duckett was doing a few shadow shots yesterday, and Siraj was there. And Duckett smiled at Siraj and went, ‘Hello, Mr. Angry, good morning, Mr. Angry, how are you?’ And I sort of said to Ben, ‘What do you mean, Mr. Angry?’ He goes, ‘Oh, we go up to Siraj and we call him Mr. Angry with a smile on our face and see how he reacts’,” said Broad on JioHotstar.

Siraj spearheaded India’s fightback in the first innings of the Oval Test, delivering a standout performance with four crucial wickets. He dismissed Ollie Pope, Joe Root, Harry Brook, and Jacob Bethell, playing a key role in halting England’s momentum after a strong 92-run opening partnership.

I’m surprised to see Sudharsan’s outburst: Stuart Broad

The 39-year-old also admitted he was taken aback by Sudharsan’s outburst, as the young batter charged toward Duckett after his dismissal. The situation grew tense enough that Pope and Brook had to step in, urging Sudharsan to return to the pavilion.

“I’m surprised, actually, when Sai Sudharsan turned around to Ben Duckett when he got out last night. But Siraj didn’t come out and backed Sudarshan up in the middle, although he would have had his flip-flops on by then. But he’s certainly been in and around it. I grew up watching Test match cricket in the ’90s, where you had these characters that were sort of emotional and driven,” said Broad.

“Ultimately, look, guys, you’re playing for your country, you’re representing everybody who loves their cricket back home. You’re wearing a badge that means a huge amount to you. I would much prefer to be on the side of being overly emotional and confrontational than on the side of fans sitting at home going, I won that shirt, I could put more into that shirt, I could show more emotion and passion. I would always lean on the side of pushing the game to the limits on that side because I loved seeing it, and I loved doing it on the field,” he added.
