Nonetheless, there were many memorable events in cricket history. Ravichandran Ashwin chose three such situations from a recent video he uploaded on social media. He noted how Ravindra Jadeja and Washington Sundar refused to shake hands with Ben Stokes during the fourth Test at Old Trafford. The England captain was content to settle for a draw, while Jadeja and Sundar wanted to get centuries, causing some friction among the players.
The five-match Test series between India and England was immensely enjoyed by cricket fans all around the world, as two top sides fought tooth and nail for the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy. However, the series finished in a 2-2 stalemate, and the trophy did not have its first champion.
Ashwin also recounted a beautiful moment at the end of the third Test at Lord’s, when Joe Root and Crawley attempted to console a distraught Mohammed Siraj, who had been out in one of the most awful ways possible. The Tamil Nadu spinner completed Siraj’s hallmark celebration in Cristiano Ronaldo style after dismissing Gus Atkinson on the final day of the fifth Test at The Oval.
“1.When Ben Stokes and Crawley walked up to shake hands at Old Trafford and India refused. 2.When Mohammed Siraj was crouched and Root and Crawley came up to him after the loss at Lord’s. 3. When Siraj did his signature celebration after removing Gus Atkinson at The Oval,” Ashwin said in a video uploaded on his official YouTube channel.
Kuldeep Yadav has to play the home Tests versus South Africa and West Indies: Ashwin
Kuldeep Yadav was a part of the Indian squad but didn’t get a single game. However, Ashwin believes that the Uttar Pradesh spinner should play the home Tests against South Africa and the West Indies later this year as the opposition batters will struggle to pick him.
“The way we have played in the current regime, I don’t think they will go in search of an extra bowler. I think they will omit a seamer and bring Kuldeep Yadav in his place in Indian conditions. That’s what will and should happen. There is a possibility that Axar will also play with them. The point to note is that we have packed our team with spinners at home before. Kuldeep Yadav has to play the home Tests because South Africa and West Indies will find it very difficult to pick him. We can consider that he would play, but I am not sure who they would drop from the XI?”
