Shubman Gill and Dhruv Jurel both missed the quarterfinals of the Duleep Trophy 2025 because to illness and injuries, respectively. Jurel was designated Central Zone captain, while Gill was assigned to oversee the North Zone.
Shubman Gill last played in the 2025 Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy in England, where he scored 754 runs in five Tests at an average of 75.40 in his first series as India’s Test captain.
He is likely to be in Bengaluru within the next week before travelling to the UAE for the Asia Cup 2025, which begins on September 9. Ankit Kumar, Haryana’s top-order batter, is leading North Zone in Gill’s absence, while the latter has been replaced by Services’ Shubham Rohilla in the team.
As for Central Zone, Jurel was ruled out after a groin niggle ahead of the contest against North East Zone. Rajat Patidar, initially named the Jurel’s deputy, is leading the group. Bowlers Kuldeep Yadav, Khaleel Ahmed and Deepak Chahar are all part of the Central Zone lineup.
As for East Zone, they are without Abhimanyu Easwaran as the opening batter was ruled out due to fever. Riyan Parag has taken up the mantle of captaincy in East Zone’s season-opening clash against North Zone at the BCCI Centre of Excellence (CoE) Ground in Bengaluru. Harshit Rana and Arshdeep Singh are the other big names in the North Zone squad. They will also be heading to the UAE for the Asia Cup later.
The first semi-final will be played between South Zone and the winner of the North Zone vs East Zone clash while the second one will be played between West Zone and the winner of the Central Zone vs North East Zone game. Both the games will be played at the BCCI’s Centre of Excellence ground from September 4.The final is scheduled from September 11 to 15 at the same venue.
