When is next India vs Pakistan clash in Asia Cup 2025?
The ongoing Asia Cup 2025 has already delivered one contest between India and Pakistan, with India coming out victorious by seven wickets in the group stage. However, fans won’t have to wait long for the next clash between the two as they are scheduled to meet again in the Super Four stage on Sunday, September 21, at the Dubai International Stadium.
India-Pakistan book spot in Super Four
Both India and Pakistan have already confirmed their places in the Super Four from Group A. India made a solid start to their campaign with back-to-back wins against the UAE and Pakistan, respectively. Their final group match against Oman on September 19 in Abu Dhabi is expected to be a formality, as Oman has already been eliminated. With most likely winning the contest, they will finish as A1.
On the other hand, Pakistan defeated Oman by 74 runs and later sealed qualification with a 41-run win over the UAE, despite a setback in their match against India. With two wins from three matches, Pakistan secured the A2 spot in the Super Four. According to the Super Four schedule, A1 (India) will face A2 (Pakistan) on September 21. The Dubai International Stadium, which already witnessed their group-stage encounter, will once again play host.
Group B scenario
While India and Pakistan’s progression is straightforward, Group B is still open. Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, and Afghanistan are fighting for the two available spots. Bangladesh has already completed its group games, while Sri Lanka and Afghanistan’s clash on September 18 will decide the final standings. If Sri Lanka wins, they and Bangladesh will progress. If Afghanistan wins, all three teams will finish on four points, leaving net run rate to determine the qualifiers.
Moreover, if both teams finish in the top two of the Super Four, fans could be treated to a dream India vs Pakistan final on September 28, the first such meeting in Asia Cup history.
Controversy following IND-PAK clash
Notably, after India’s seven-wicket win, Suryakumar Yadav and his teammates walked off without shaking hands with Pakistani players. Pakistan skipper Salman Ali Agha boycotted the post-match presentation in protest, while the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) lodged a formal complaint with the ICC.
PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi even threatened to pull Pakistan out of the Asia Cup unless match referee Andy Pycroft was removed, accusing him of breaching the spirit of cricket. The ICC supported Pycroft, who went on to officiate Pakistan’s next match. Suryakumar later explained his actions, saying the team chose to stand in solidarity with the victims of the Pahalgam terror attack, dedicating the win to India’s armed forces.
