Bangladesh made a superb run chase against Sri Lanka on Saturday, September 20, at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium, securing crucial points in the 2025 Asia Cup Super-Four.
Litton Das won a nice toss and chose to bowl first. Pathum Nissanka and Kusal Mendis batted brilliantly together, scoring 44 runs in five overs. However, both openers were removed after receiving starts. Kamil Mishara went cheaply, and Kusal Perera only managed 16 from as many balls.
Dasun Shanaka delivered an outstanding performance, hitting an unbeaten 64 off 37 balls. Charith Asalanka also made a vital cameo as Sri Lanka finished on 168/7.
In response, Bangladesh lost opener Tanzid Hasan for a duck in the first over. However, Saif Hassan and Litton Das played aggressively, helping the Tigers score 59 runs on the powerplay. After Litton left for a 16-ball 23, Towhid Hridoy joined forces with Hassan, and the duo put up a composed 54-run stand off 45 deliveries.
Wanindu Hasaranga broke Hassan and Hridoy’s partnership in the fourteenth over. The first batter scored 61 off 45 balls. Hridoy, on the other hand, accepted responsibility for leading his squad home. He scored a ferocious half-century before being bowled in the 19th over. However, he had already put his squad in a strong position at that point.
In the end, Bangladesh almost messed things up when only one run was required off the final five balls. Sri Lanka claimed two wickets in three deliveries before Nasum Ahmed scored the winning run. Shamim Hossain deserves credit for a tidy hit of 14* from 12 balls. Bangladesh finished with 169/6 from 19.5 overs.
Key moments from SL vs BAN, Super Four, Match 1 of Asia Cup 2025:
1. Towhid Hridoy shines with classy half-century
Towhid Hridoy might be only 24 years old, but he played like someone who has years of experience batting in pressure run chases. He scored 58 off just 37 balls, hitting four fours and two sixes. The Bogra-born batted with a sense of calmness, wisely choosing the bowlers to target. His rotation of strike was also remarkable and kept the pressure firmly on Sri Lanka.

2. Dasun Shanaka takes Bangladesh bowlers to the cleaners
Former Sri Lanka captain Dasun Shanaka played a sensational knock in the first innings. While the pitch wasn’t easy to bat on, Shanaka targeted the short boundary and made the Bangladesh bowlers pay for any lapses they made. The all-rounder finished unbeaten on 64 off 37 balls. He hit three fours and six sixes, ending his stay at the crease with a strike rate of 172.97.

3. Mustafizur Rahman uses conditions to his advantage
Mustafizur Rahman is lethal, especially on surfaces that are sluggish in nature. The Dubai surface suited his style of bowling, and he delivered for Bangladesh. Rahman used his cutters to great effect and finished with phenomenal figures of 3/20 in four overs despite the carnage caused by Shanka. The left-arm pacer accounted for the wickets of Kusal Perera, Kamindu Mendis, and Wanindu Hasaranga.
Mustafizur Rahman was at his very best, finishing with 3 wickets for a miserly 20 runs 🔥
