Pakistan opener Saim Ayub’s poor batsmanship continued as he recorded his fourth duck in six innings against Bangladesh in the Super Four of the Asia Cup 2025 at Dubai. The left-hander fell early again, going another inning without making an impression.
In his second over against off-spinner Mahedi Hasan, Ayub ran down the track but failed to hit correctly, giving Rishad Hossain a simple catch at mid-on. Pakistan was struggling at 5 for 2 after being dismissed in two overs. Ayub’s ninth duck in 45 T20I innings puts him second on Pakistan’s all-time list of ducks in the format, trailing only Umar Akmal (10). He now has six ducks in 2025, tied with Zimbabwe’s Richard Ngarava for the most in a single calendar year.
Saim Ayub’s Asia Cup performance has been dismal.
After golden ducks against Oman and India in the group stage, as well as a two-ball duck against the UAE, Thursday’s three-ball duck exacerbated his problems further. His only major contribution in the competition has been a 21-run knock against India, with his other five innings totalling only two runs.
Meanwhile, Pakistan’s first innings was equally disappointing. Sent in to bat first, they posted just 135 for 8 in 20 overs. Taskin Ahmed gave Bangladesh the perfect start by removing Sahibzada Farhan for four in the very first over. Ayub followed soon after, before Fakhar Zaman perished after adding just 13 off 20 balls and fell to Rishad Hossain.
By the halfway mark, Pakistan were at 33 for 4. Skipper Salman Agha (19 off 23) and Hussain Talat (3 off 7) tried to stabilize, along with late cameos from Mohammad Haris (31 off 23) and Mohammad Nawaz (25 off 15) to push the total past 130. Shaheen Shah Afridi chipped in with a 19. Taskin finished with 3 for 28, while Mahedi and Rishad struck twice each.
