On Day 3 of the first Test against the West Indies in Ahmedabad, India enhanced their lead with a stunning catch by Nitish Kumar Reddy, who sent Tagenarine Chanderpaul back. After declaring overnight at 448/5 in the first innings, the hosts struck again in quick succession, pushing the visitors even further behind.
Earlier, India’s bowlers reduced West Indies to 162 in the first innings, with Mohammed Siraj (4/40) and Jasprit Bumrah (3/42) leading from the front. India’s hitters then surpassed the 400-run barrier, with three centurions stealing the show on Day 2.
KL Rahul (100) recorded his first Test century at home since 2016, Dhruv Jurel (125) achieved his first tonne, while Ravindra Jadeja (104*) extended his spectacular 2025 with another century. Their efforts propelled India to a 286-run lead, prompting skipper Shubman Gill to declare overnight.
The major moment of Day 3 morning occurred when Siraj hit one short at Chanderpaul. The left-hander attempted a pull shot, middling it well enough to send it flying into square leg.
However, Nitish Reddy, who was stationed at that location, flew full length to his left and collected the ball cleanly, ensuring that it did not pop out when landing.

India pick two wickets on Day 3 morning
Soon after, Ravindra Jadeja struck by removing John Campbell for 14, with Sai Sudharsan completing a catch at short leg. Within the first 10 overs, the Caribbean team’s scorecard read 24/2, still trailing by 262 runs. At stumps on Day 2, India had already pushed the visitors on the back foot with the big total. By the first hour of Day 3, they had further taken over the team with two early wickets. The hosts will be looking to pick the remaining eight wickets and fold the Windies below the 286-run mark.
