Things became heated during Mumbai’s warm-up game versus Maharashtra, as the two teams prepared for the Ranji Trophy, which begins on October 15. The game was contested at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Gahunje, Pune.
Batting first, Prithvi Shaw hit a 140-ball tonne against his former team, Mumbai. He was part of a stunning 305-run opening stand with Arshin Kulkarni, who smashed 186 off only 140 deliverie
Following Kulkarni’s removal, Prithvi Shaw added to Mumbai’s agony by smashing boundaries at ease against a formidable bowling assault.
However, in the 74th over, Irfan Umair caught him off Musheer Khan’s bowling at the square leg fence. Shaw scored 181 from just 220 balls, hitting 21 fours and three sixes. Musheer allegedly sledged the experienced campaigner shortly after his departure, saying, “Thank you.”
This celebration irritated Shaw, who got into a verbal spat with Musheer before the umpire intervened to calm things down. Siddesh Lad was also spotted attempting to calm things down. Shaw needed to be escorted away from the Mumbai players. During the first day of the friendly encounter, the former India opener allegedly attempted to lift his bat and grab the Mumbai all-rounder’s collar.

“It’s a practice match. They are all former teammates. Such things happen. It’s all ok now and there is no issue,” Ankit Bhawne, the captain of Maharashtra side, was quoted as saying.
At the time of publication, there is no information from either the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) or the Maharashtra Cricket Association (MACA) about escalating the matter.
Shaw is looking to revive his flagging career after shifting base to Maharashtra, severing ties with Mumbai ahead of the 2025-26 season. The 25-year-old will want to stay focused on the game and keep piling on the runs instead of getting involved in avoidable tussles.
