Vaibhav Suryavanshi has been selected Bihar’s deputy captain for the first few rounds of the 2025/26 Ranji Trophy. Sakibul Gani will head the team. The season is expected to begin on Wednesday, October 15.
The Bihar Cricket Association made the statement barely two days before the competition began, after a selector joined a two-member selection panel at the last minute, which was formed in accordance with a BCCI instruction. The BCA has been instructed to set up a five-person selection panel as quickly as feasible.
Meanwhile, Suryavanshi, the brilliant left-handed hitter, has been in excellent form for India U19 recently. He finished as the second-highest run-scorer in the multi-day series, making 133 runs in three innings against Australia U19. Suryavanshi previously scored 355 runs in five games versus England U19, striking at an astounding 174.01.
Previously, reports have indicated the possibility of Vaibhav Suryavanshi moving out of Bihar.
The youngster’s run-scoring prowess has been the primary reason why he has been attracting attention from other state associations. However, the BCA is understood to be keen on retaining Suryavanshi to return to the Elite division.
It is highly improbable that Suryavanshi will be part of the Bihar state squad for the entirety of the Ranji season as he is one of the leading contenders to secure a spot in India’s squad for the 2026 U19 World Cup, which will be played in Zimbabwe and Namibia.
