India has now played seven Tests in the 2025-2027 World Test Championship (WTC) cycle, winning four, losing two, and drawing one. In their most recent red-ball cricket assignment, the Asian heavyweights defeated the West Indies 2-0 at home in a two-game series.
India strengthened their position at No. 3 in the WTC standings with a seven-wicket win in the second Test at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi on Tuesday, October 14, drastically reducing the distance on second-placed Sri Lanka.
Rohit Sharma departed from the game’s longest format after his side failed to reach the WTC final earlier this year. Shubman Gill was named India’s new Test captain ahead of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy, working alongside head coach Gautam Gambhir.
They began their partnership with a 2-2 series draw during a five-Test tour to England. This was viewed as a positive outcome, particularly for a team in transition following the retirements of veterans such as Ravichandran Ashwin, Virat Kohli, and Rohit.
The comprehensive 2-0 victory against the West Indies will boost India’s confidence as they prepare for some tougher tasks in red-ball cricket in the coming months.
On that topic, let’s see when Shubman and his team will return to play in the sport’s oldest format.
When is India’s next Test series after West Indies?
The Indian team will now travel to Australia, where they play three ODIs and five T20Is over the next few weeks. The tour Down Under will end on November 8. There will be very little respite for the all-format players as India will host South Africa in a two-match Test series, starting on November 14.
The first Test against the defending WTC champions will be held at the iconic Eden Gardens in Kolkata from November 14 to 18. Meanwhile, the second Test will be hosted at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati from November 22 onwards.
