Pakistan’s cricketing talent is set to light up Hong Kong, as Abbas Afridi has been selected captain of the forthcoming Hong Kong Sixes 2025, a fast-paced competition known for its explosive action and spectacular finale.
The event will be held at the Tin Kwong Road Recreation Ground from November 7 to 9, with the national team departing for Hong Kong on November 5.
The 12 participating teams have been divided into four groups of three, with Pakistan in Pool C alongside India and Kuwait. They will launch their campaign on Friday, November 7, hoping to create a good impression in the group stages.
The format is designed for aggressive cricket, with shorter matches, rapid scoring, and a high entertainment value. Each club will play two group matches before advancing to the knockout stage, for a total of ten games in the group phase.
Pakistan is tied for the most titles in the event’s history, having won the trophy five times and finished second on six occasions. Their lineup, led by Afridi, combines youthful enthusiasm and seasoned performers such as Khawaja Mohammad Nafay, Abdul Samad, and Mohammad Shahzad.
Cricket South Africa previously named their squad for the competition. The Proteas have also won the title five times: 1995, 2006, 2009, 2012, and 2017.
Meanwhile, India will be captained by Dinesh Karthik, with R Ashwin joining the squad, adding star power to an already electrifying roster. The team has yet to reveal its lineup for the flagship tournament.
