On Monday (October 27), the ICC stated that Shafali Verma has been authorized to replace the injured Pratika Rawal in India’s World Cup roster for the remainder of the competition.
Before being formally added to the squad, a player’s replacement must receive clearance from the Event Technical Committee. The decision was made because Rawal was eliminated from the tournament at a crucial point after she slipped and fell awkwardly while fielding close to the boundary ropes during the rain-affected league match against Bangladesh in Navi Mumbai. Since she made her debut at the end of last year, she has been one of India’s reliable performers in the format, so it was a serious setback for the country ahead of their semifinal match against Australia at the same location on Thursday.
Shafali Verma, who is presently leading the Sr. Women’s T20 League in runs scored, was in Surat when she was called up.
She will report to Navi Mumbai on Tuesday before India’s training session. In addition, the Haryana skipper was Smriti Mandhana’s opening partner for a long time before being benched last year for being inconsistent following the three-match series against New Zealand in Ahmedabad. She has scored 341 runs for Haryana in seven innings, including a century and two half, with a strike rate of 182.35 and an average of 56.83.
Selected in India Shafali Verma, who was included in the side for the official World Cup 2025 warm-up match against New Zealand, scored a quick 70 off 49 deliveries to set up a four-wicket victory (DLS method) in Bengaluru’s CoE.
