Vipraj Nigam, an all-rounder for the Delhi Capitals, has filed a police case against a woman for allegedly harassing and threatening him over the last two months. The 25-year-old cricketer, who had an outstanding debut IPL season in 2025, went to the Kotwali Nagar police station in Barabanki district, Uttar Pradesh, after receiving numerous threat calls and messages from international numbers.
According to sources, Nigam first received threatening and abusive communications in September 2025. The harassment began with a single mobile number, but once he blocked it, the same person allegedly used many overseas numbers to continue the intimidation. The accused, Richa Purohit, allegedly threatened to implicate the player in bogus criminal charges if he did not comply with her requests.
Nigam, a resident of Awas Vikas Colony in Barabanki, claims the harassment increased when the woman began sharing undesirable and false content, including bogus films, on social media, ruining his reputation. The player further alleged that the accused made threats against his family and close associates, causing him serious mental suffering.

Based on Nigam’s complaint, an FIR has been registered under sections 351(3) (criminal intimidation) and 352 (insult and provocation to breach peace) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Superintendent of Police (SP) Arpit Vijayvargiya confirmed the registration of the case and stated that an investigation is underway to trace the source of the international calls and verify the allegations.
“Initially, the calls were made from a mobile number, but after I blocked it, the same person began using several foreign numbers to harass me,” the cricketer was quoted as saying in the report.
Meanwhile, Nigam was picked by the Delhi Capitals for INR 50 lakh ahead of the IPL 2025 season. The young all-rounder made a strong impression in his debut year, contributing both with bat and ball. In 14 matches, he scored 142 runs and took 11 wickets. He will be next seen playing for India A in the upcoming ODI series against South Africa, starting on 13th November.
