Shreyas Iyer is anticipated to be out of action for at least two months after further medical examinations revealed the need for the cricketer to avoid high-intensity activities. Iyer sustained the injury after landing awkwardly while taking a catch in the third One-Day International against Australia.
He will follow a staged rehabilitation regimen and be closely monitored throughout his recovery. Regarding the incident, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) reported that he “sustained a blunt injury to his abdomen, resulting in a laceration of his spleen with internal bleeding”.
Shreyas Iyer was then transferred to the Intensive Care Unit for additional observation.
He has been under rigorous medical observation since his return to India. He received an ultrasound scan earlier this week, according to India Today. Dr. Dinshaw Pardiwala, a well-known sports medicine specialist, evaluated the results.
The 30-year-old has been allowed to resume normal daily activities and begin with simple isometric workouts. However, he has been advised to avoid any activities that may cause strain on his abdomen for at least a month. A scheduled USG scan will assist in the implementation of a systematic rehabilitation strategy at the Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru.
According to the current recuperation window, Iyer would miss at least two to three months of cricket, including home ODIs against South Africa and New Zealand. His comeback to the team for post-series contests will be determined by his recuperation progress.
Speaking of his last international game with the bat, he scored 61 off 77 in a losing cause in the second match in Adelaide. India lost the 50-over series by a 2-1 margin signing off with a victory in Sydney. However, they emerged victorious in the T20I series by a 2-1 margin.
Iyer, who had taken Punjab Kings to the final of IPL 2025, was recently retained by the franchise ahead of the auction for next year’s season.
