Kagiso Rabada will not take part in the second Test of the present two-match series between India and South Africa. Rabada did not play in the series opener in Kolkata due to a stress injury in his ribcage that prevented him from fully recovering.
According to an official statement from Cricket South Africa (CSA), Rabada will not continue on the tour. The Proteas quick will return to South Africa following the second Test in Guwahati for further evaluation.
“The injury has been closely monitored by the Proteas medical team, and due to ongoing discomfort in the affected area, Rabada has been withdrawn from the remainder of the tour. He will continue the initial phase of his four-week rehabilitation program with the Proteas medical team before returning to South Africa at the conclusion of the second Test,” stated the same release.
Kagiso Rabada not being a part of the three-match ODI series and five T20Is spanning November and December is a big blow for South Africa.
According to, the pacer has not bowled a single ball even in practice since sustaining the injury while training on November 11. He did not train in Guwahati either. Meanwhile, Lungi Ngidi was recently added to the squad for the second Test.
Simon Harmer (4/30 and 4/21) was adjudged as the Player of the Match for his match haul of eight wickets as India failed to chase 124, with the tourists winning by 30 runs. The second Test is scheduled to commence on November 22.
The red-ball series will be followed by three ODIs and five 20-over matches across different venues between November 27 to December 19.
