Shardul Thakur is poised to lead defending champions Mumbai in the next Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2025. The experienced all-rounder will be supported by a formidable team that includes stalwarts such as Ajinkya Rahane, Suryakumar Yadav and Shivam Dube.
Last year, Mumbai won the T20 tournament under Shreyas Iyer’s leadership. However, the right-handed hitter has been ruled out for the remainder of the year after suffering a ruptured spleen during the ODI series against Australia in October.
Shardul Thakur has led Mumbai in this year’s Ranji Trophy campaign.
Under his leadership, Mumbai destroyed Puducherry earlier this year, winning by an innings and 22 runs. Mumbai has been placed at the top of Elite Group D in the country’s primary domestic red-ball championship.
Returning to the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, Mumbai’s squad comprises wicketkeepers Angkrish Raghuvanshi and Hardik Tamore, India fast bowler Tushar Deshpande, and spin-bowling all-rounder Tanush Kotian. Raghuvanshi, a specialist batsman for the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), has impressed fans with his wicketkeeping abilities.
Tushar Deshpande has previously represented the Chennai Super Kings and the Rajasthan Royals in the IPL. Tanush Kotian, on the other hand, played in the most recent unofficial Test match between India A and South Africa A.
Siddhesh Lad, who scored 530 runs in five matches this season, including three hundreds and a fifty in the first leg of the Ranji Trophy, has also been picked to the squad.
Two-time champs Mumbai’s campaign begins on Wednesday, November 26, when they face Railways. These two teams compete in Elite Group A alongside Odisha, Vidarbha, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh, and Chhattisgarh.
