Dawid Malan, a former England batter, has left Yorkshire by mutual consent after six seasons with the club. He joined Yorkshire from Middlesex in 2020 and played an important role in front of the Headingley fans.
The left-handed batsman thanked general manager of cricket Gavin Hamilton and head coach Anthony McGrath for allowing him to pursue new chances overseas. Similarly, Hamilton congratulated the cricketer for his contributions and wished him success in his future endeavours.
“I have enjoyed six happy and successful seasons with Yorkshire, but feel now is the right time for the club to make a fresh start. I am grateful to the general manager of cricket Gavin Hamilton and head coach Anthony McGrath for allowing me to seek a new challenge elsewhere,” stated Malan, as quoted by.
“Dawid has been a consistent run-scorer across all formats, and will always be welcome at Headingley. We thank him for his very significant contribution in recent seasons, and we wish him well for the future,” noted Hamilton.
Dawid Malan had captained the club during the T20 Blast the previous season.
He could not prevent them from ending up second from bottom in the North Group regardless of a stellar effort with the bat, registering 365 runs at a strike-rate of 156.65.
Malan last featured for the Three Lions during the ODI World Cup in 2023, where the Jos Buttler-led side failed big time. He has heaps of experience in the franchise T20 circuit as well. The left-handed opening batter has played in the Big Bash League, SA20, Pakistan Super League, Bangladesh Premier League and the Nepal Premier League. Furthermore, he is also working part-time as a commentator for live games.
