In Australia’s second innings, Jake Weatherald and Marnus Labuschagne were both out early. However, Travis Head followed his instincts and launched an attack on England’s bowlers. Usman Khawaja too delivered a fluent 40-run knock in 51 deliveries.
England, on the other hand, responded forcefully, with Will Jacks and Josh Tongue dismissing Khawaja and Cameron Green in quick succession. Australia were struggling at 149/4, but Head and Alex Carey combined for an undefeated 122-run combination to dampen England’s spirits. The day ended with Australia at 271/4, with Head scoring 142 and Carey adding 52. Day 3 ended with the hosts leading by 356 runs.

- Travis Head became the fifth batter to register centuries in four consecutive Tests at an Australian venue. The opening batter was dropped on 99 by Harry Brook.
- Jofra Archer became the first England player in 30 years to take a five-wicket haul and score a fifty in a Test match.
