Rain has raised a major concern at the IND U19 vs SL U19 semi-final of the ACC Men’s U19 Asia Cup 2025 at the ICC Academy in Dubai. Scheduled to begin at 10:30 AM on Friday, December 19, the knockout clash has been heavily delayed due to persistent rain and a wet outfield. With no reserve day in place, the threat of a washout has raised questions about who progresses to the final if no play is possible.

Despite the rain easing at times, puddles on the outfield have made conditions unsafe for play. Overs are set to be reduced the longer the delay continues. As per tournament regulations, a minimum of 20 overs per team is required to produce a result in a 50-over match. For that to happen, the game must begin within the cut-off time in the afternoon. If that window is breached, the match will be declared a no-result.

If the India U19 vs Sri Lanka U19 semi-final is washed out, India will automatically qualify for the final. The U19 Asia Cup rules state that in the event of a no-result in a knockout game, the higher-ranked team from the group stage advances. There are no reserve days for the semi-finals or the final.

India topped Group A with six points from three matches, winning all their games convincingly. Meanwhile, Sri Lanka finished second in Group B with four points. As a result, India holds the advantage and would move into the final scheduled for Sunday, December 21, at the same venue.

Rain also delays the second semi-final between Pakistan and Bangladesh

India has been the standout team of the tournament so far. They began their campaign with a record-breaking performance against the UAE, where Vaibhav Suryavanshi smashed 171 off just 95 balls as India crossed the 430-run mark. Against Pakistan, despite being bowled out for 240, India still managed a 90-run victory. The final group game against Malaysia saw another 400-plus total, courtesy of Abhigyan Kundu’s double century.

Individually, Abhigyan Kundu leads the run charts with 263 runs, while Deepesh Devendran has been lethal with the ball, topping the wicket-taking list with 10 scalps. Suryavanshi has been the face of India’s batting. Rain has also delayed the second semi-final between Pakistan and Bangladesh. If that match is washed out as well, Bangladesh, being the higher-ranked team from the group stage, will advance to the final and face India. However, their match has begun with the contest being reduced to 27 overs per team.
