Fans who came to the Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow to watch India’s fourth T20I against South Africa on December 17 were relieved after a poor evening. The Uttar Pradesh Cricket Association (UPCA) has issued a full refund of ticket costs following the match’s cancellation due to persistent fog, which made playing conditions unsafe.
The fourth T20I between India and South Africa was scheduled to begin at 7:00 PM, however a heavy layer of fog descended on the stadium just after nightfall, significantly limiting vision. Match officials undertook six inspections in an effort to save the game. However, with conditions failing to improve, the game was formally cancelled around 9:30 p.m. The washout also drew criticism from fans and experts, who questioned why a night match was scheduled in North India at peak winter fog conditions.
In response to the cancellation, UPCA stated that spectators would receive a full refund regardless of whether they purchased tickets online or offline.
In an official statement, UPCA secretary Prem Manohar Gupta promised supporters that the refund process will be hassle-free.
Ticket amount will be credited back to the original mode of payment
For spectators who booked tickets online, the refund process is straightforward. The ticket amount will be credited back to the original mode of payment, including debit cards, credit cards, or UPI platforms. Gupta stated that refund-related notifications would be sent to the registered email addresses, and ticket holders have been advised to regularly monitor their inboxes for updates.
Offline ticket holders, however, are required to follow a verification-based process. Refunds for offline purchases will be issued at the box office located at Gate No. 2 of the Ekana Stadium. The counters will remain open on December 20, 21, and 22, between 11:00 AM and 6:00 PM.
To claim the refund, spectators must be physically present and carry their original physical tickets along with a copy of a valid government-issued photo ID for verification. Additionally, ticket holders will need to provide their bank account details and fill out a refund form available at the counter. The original tickets must be submitted along with the completed form. UPCA clarified that refunds will be processed only after successful verification of all documents and details, following which the amount will be credited directly to the respective bank accounts.
