The Indian U-19 team repeated their seniors’ practice by ignoring Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Mohsin Naqvi at the award distribution ceremony after the U-19 Asia Cup final on Sunday, December 21.
Pakistan won the U-19 Asia Cup by defeating India by 191 runs at Dubai’s ICC Academy Ground. Following Ayush Mhatre’s invitation to bat first, Pakistan produced a magnificent 347/8 in 50 overs, thanks to Sameer Minhas’ 113-ball 172.
In response, India were bowled out for 156 in 26.2 overs, with No. 10 batter Deepesh Devendran top-scoring with 16 from 36 balls. India needed openers Vaibhav Suryavanshi and Mhatre to get off to a fast start with the bat. However, they were bowled for 26 and 2 by Ali Raza, who was excellent with the new ball.
Mohsin Naqvi came in Dubai during the summit clash, and he joined the dignitaries for the presentation.
However, the Indian players chose not to share the stage with Naqvi and instead received their medals from another dignitary, away from the main dais where the PCB president was standing.
Naqvi delivered the winners’ medals to the Pakistani players before entrusting the trophy to Farhan Yousaf’s capable hands. The 47-year-old then posed for shots alongside the Pakistan team and management. He was also on the pitch when the Pakistani players celebrated their victory, sharing the moment with their devoted fans.
