Madhya Pradesh government informs HC that contaminated water sources were shut down
The heightened caution comes following a serious public health issue in Indore. Despite being known as one of India’s cleanest cities, parts of Indore have recently reported deaths and hospitalisations due to contaminated drinking water. The Bhagirathpura area has been suffering the most, with official reports mentioning multiple fatalities caused by vomiting and diarrhoea.
The Madhya Pradesh government has informed the High Court that contaminated water sources were shut down and clean water is being supplied through tankers. However, reports reveal that at least 23 deaths may be linked to the outbreak, with several patients still undergoing treatment. The situation has naturally raised concerns for visiting teams, especially with an international match scheduled in the city.
Shubman Gill carries INR 3 lakh worth water purifier to Indore
While the team’s hotel and stadium are equipped with RO systems and packaged drinking water, the Indian team is further strengthening its safety. The team’s media manager declined to confirm whether these steps were directly linked to the crisis or part of routine protocols.
Meanwhile, India captain Shubman Gill reportedly brought a specialised water purification machine worth around INR 3 lakh to Indore. According to sources, the device was installed in Gill’s hotel room and is capable of re-purifying even RO-treated and packaged water.
