Prior to India’s 20-over series against New Zealand, former Indian cricketer Irfan Pathan was blunt in his criticism of Sanju Samson‘s inconsistent batting. On January 21, the five-match Twenty20 International series against the Kiwis is set to start in Nagpur.
Irfan Pathan concurred that Samson, while batting at full speed, is a powerful, high-impact batter. He claimed, nonetheless, that the top-order batsman cannot maintain his form for extended periods of time. Additionally, he didn’t think Samson would be able to resolve the problem anytime soon.
“There will be inconsistencies, and a lot will depend on how the team management views it as well as how patient the supporters and commentators are. The player is also affected by all of this. Sanju Samson has never been a reliable player. His behaviour has been explosive. He has been the kind of player who will score a hundred runs out of the blue and then stop making runs. Will everything now change? In a video posted on his YouTube account, Irfan Pathan stated, “I don’t think so.”
Irfan Pathan also discussed the circumstances surrounding Jasprit Bumrah and his position in the starting lineup.
He pleaded with the management to play Bumrah in each of the series’ five games rather than keeping him out due to workload management.
“There should now be no discussion of relaxation or pick and choose. Before the World Cup, I hope Jasprit Bumrah is playing at his best. After returning from a sabbatical, each bowler takes some time to reach their level. He shouldn’t play one or two games and then skip the following one; I don’t want to witness it. “He ought to participate in all five games,” Irfan Pathan continued.
New Zealand just defeated India in the One-Day Internationals with a score of 1-2. In the 20-over leg of the white-ball series, the Men in Blue will try to settle the score. As the reigning winners, they will then co-host the T20 World Cup in February and March.
