On Wednesday, January 22, at the Vidarbha Cricket Association Stadium in Nagpur, Rinku Singh made a spectacular cameo in the opening Twenty20 International between India and New Zealand. The southpaw finished with 44 runs not out off 20 balls, hitting four fours and three sixes as he hammered the Kiwi bowlers to every corner of the pitch. After Abhishek Sharma’s blitzkrieg at the top of the order, the little batter’s heroics enabled India to a massive total of 238/7.
Simon Doull commended Rinku for his outstanding effort following India’s easy 48-run victory.
Rinku should have played 100 games by now, according to the seasoned pundit, who described him as one of the game’s top finishers.
One of the game’s top finishers is Rinku Singh. I still believe that he hasn’t played enough Twenty20 cricket for India since his IPL debut four or five years ago. He could have easily played 100 games by now and should have made considerably more appearances, Doull told Star Sports.
“Rinku is a great finisher and should be supported in that role. He is tremendously powerful despite his height, and his ability to get under the ball at the last second makes him very challenging to bowl to,” Doull continued.
In recent years, Rinku has been on and off the Indian T20 team. He has primarily warmed the bench even when he has been a member of the team. He did, however, demonstrate his power-hitting abilities in the final overs on Wednesday.
Abhishek hammered 84 off just 35 balls on Wednesday after the Kiwis won the toss and decided to bowl first, putting India ahead right away. Prior to Rinku’s assault, Suryakumar Yadav and Hardik Pandya also made crucial contributions.
Glenn Phillips led New Zealand in scoring with a 40-ball 78 in the second innings. It was insufficient, though, to assist the tourists in reaching India’s intimidating total. India led the five-match series 1-0 as the Black Caps were held to 190/7.
