Ben Stokes has not been able to perform to his usual high standards for the Chennai Super Kings in the IPL 2023, but the influential all-rounder is relieved to be able to bowl without discomfort. During his team’s victory against the Lucknow Super Giants at Chepauk, CSK’s record acquisition bowled one over for his squad.
Ben Stokes was limited to nine overs in four innings during England’s two-match Test series in New Zealand earlier this year as a result of his infamous knee injury.
Given his knee problems, he was not anticipated to bowl in the game against Lucknow. However, to the surprise of many onlookers, he bowled at a medium pace.
The 31-year-old disclosed that he did not experience any pain while bowling and is hopeful of playing the fourth seamer role for England in the upcoming Ashes series, which begins on June 16.
“It has been a frustrating year bowling with this knee condition. My inability to fulfill my duties as a fourth-year seamsman has been extremely aggravating. I have worked so diligently over the past month to reach my current position. The ability to bowl pain-free has been beneficial.
“I was able to bowl an over in the IPL without experiencing any knee pain due to a lot of diligent work. Everything is proceeding smoothly, and I should not attempt to hasten things. The top priority for me is ensuring I can fulfill my duty as fourth seamer in the Ashes, England’s Test captain told Sky Sports’ Nasser Hussain.
Even though he conceded 18 runs in his one over for CSK, the English all-rounder is taking things one step at a time and hopes to be fit to bowl in the highly anticipated Ashes. The first Ashes Test will be contested in Birmingham at Edgbaston.
