The head of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), Najam Sethi, has finally said why Shan Masood was made Pakistan’s vice captain for the last home series against New Zealand in January of this year. Shan got the job against the Kiwis instead of all-rounder Shadab Khan, even though current and former players didn’t like the pick. At the time, the first hitter didn’t usually bat in the 50-over format because it was thought that he would do better in the longest format.
Sethi said that he was the only one who could choose the captain and vice captain. He also said that he made the choice after talking to other people about it.
He then said that he made Shan Masood vice captain to see how well he could do the job.
“It’s up to me to choose who the captain and his vice captain will be. I was thinking about some things, and I had also talked to some people about this. The Pakistan Observer reported that Sethi said, “I thought about making Shan Masood a vice captain to see how good he was.”
In January 2023, Pakistan lost the game to the team led by Kane Williamson by a score of 2-1. Shan’s time as vice-captain didn’t last long because he didn’t play in the first two ODIs of the three-game series and was out on a duck in the only game he did play in.
New Zealand will come to Pakistan for a T20I and ODI series.
A five-game T20I and ODI series between Pakistan and New Zealand will be led by Babar Azam. The T20I series will start on April 14 and end on April 24. The first three games will be at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore, and the last two will be at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium.
The ODI series, on the other hand, will start on April 26 and end on May 7. The first two ODIs will be in Rawalpindi, and the next three will be at the National Stadium in Karachi.
