Harry Brook was anticipated to fetch a boatload of runs in the Indian T20 league after burning a hole in SRH’s wallet during the IPL 2023 auction. That couldn’t have been the case, though, with the English hitter throughout the season’s opening four games, as he returned with scores of 13, 3, and 13, before turning the tables on KKR. In the game against KKR, Harry Brook, who batted further down the order in SRH’s first two games, began the batting for his team and left the bowlers gasping for air with his 55-ball 100*.
With 12 fours and three sixes, Brook completely stole the show at Eden Gardens, enabling SRH to score a whopping 228 runs. The English batsman discussed his innings and claimed that he left the field on Friday with a “I don’t care” attitude, responding appropriately to the trolls who had put him down following SRH’s first games.
Following the first few games, I believe I started to put pressure on myself. Harry Brook
“I believe that after the first few games, I started to put pressure on myself. When you use social media, people criticize you, and you begin to question yourself a little. But tonight I simply went out there with a ‘I don’t care’ attitude, and thankfully I came up. Many Indian followers are going to commend me tonight (on social media), yet just a few days ago they were making fun of me. Glad I could get them to stop talking,” Harry Brook remarked after winning Player of the Match against KKR.
After being given the opportunity to bat first, Brook’s impressive performance and skipper Aiden Markram’s 50 off 26 helped SRH earn their second victory of the year. Even though Nitish Rana (75 off 41) and Rinku Singh (58* off 31) gave it their all to put KKR in the lead, the target proved to be a bit too much for them in the end, and they fell short by 23 runs.
