Match 39 of the 2023 Indian Premier League (IPL) is currently ongoing between the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Gujarat Titans (GT) at Kolkata’s iconic Eden Gardens. Hardik Pandya, captain of GT, won the toss and elected to field first. Due to rain, the contest was delayed for 45 minutes before beginning. Andre Russell is one of the most powerful hitters in the history of the lucrative division. In the match against GT, the veteran all-rounder from the West Indies makes his 100th appearance for KKR. In addition, he is participating in his 100th IPL match on his 35th birthday.
Since 2014, Andre Russell has been a pivotal all-rounder for the defending IPL champions.
He was dubbed Player of the Tournament and Super Striker of the Season in the 2019 edition after achieving an IPL season strike rate record of over 205. Throughout the years, his all-around ability has helped KKR defeat a multitude of opponents in the tournament.
Rashid Khan will play his 100th IPL game this season.
The match between GT and KKR was Afghanistan all-rounder Rashid Khan’s 100th IPL match. In the 2017 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL), the Afghan spinner debuted for Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH). With 17 wickets in 14 matches, he completed his first season as the sixth-leading wicket-taker in the tournament.
During the previous IPL season, he was recruited by the IPL 2022 debutants, the Gujarat Titans, and named vice captain. In the team’s inaugural season, he claimed the league championship with GT. The 24-year-old took a hat-trick and concluded with 3 for 37 in the previous match against KKR in the current season. Currently, he is tied for the lead on the IPL 2023 purple cap leaderboard. He also mentors Noor Ahmad, an Afghan prodigy who also plays for the Gujarat Titans.
