Ravi Shastri, a former head coach of India, is pleased with Jitesh Sharma’s play for the Punjab Kings (PBKS) in the Indian Premier League 2023 (IPL).
Punjab has won five of their nine games and is presently ranked sixth in the IPL 2023 points standings. While PBKS captain Shikhar Dhawan‘s reliable top-order performances have been essential to the team’s success, Jitesh has distinguished himself with his incredible power-hitting skills. The 29-year-old has played nine innings this season and has a strike rate of 162.39 while scoring 190 runs.
Shastri stated that because Jitesh is a fantastic player further down the order, he may potentially be called up to the Indian team at any point. He also acknowledged the good and brave wicketkeeper for his performances.
“He is the IPL’s discovery. Unfortunately, Rishabh Pant is not available; however, this player is always welcome to join the Indian team. He is a todu (amazing) player lower in the order. Ravi Shastri remarked that he is courageous and has excellent keeping.
The 60-year-old also praised Dhawan’s performance so far in the competition. He added that Liam Livingstone and Sam Curran’s contributions are a significant plus for the side.
“You’re talking about Shikhar; he was injured for a couple of games, but his intent is incredible. He played with incredible purpose, although he only scored 20–25. Liam Livingstone and Sam Curran are also present, of course,” Shastri continued.
On May 3, at the Punjab Cricket Association IS Bindra Stadium, the 46th game of the IPL 2023 will take place between Punjab and Mumbai Indians. In their previous match, PBKS defeated Chennai Super Kings by four wickets, while MI defeated Rajasthan Royals by six wickets.
