Kabul, May 9, 2023: The Afghanistan Cricket Board has announced that the national squad will go to Sri Lanka for a three-match One-Day International series in early June. The three matches will be contested at the Mahinda Rajapaksa International Cricket Stadium (MRICS) in Hambantota on June 2, 4, and 7.
The two nations’ long-term commitment includes the series, which will help both sides prepare for the ACC Asia Cup 2023 and the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 in October and November of this year. The location for the 50-over Asia Cup has not yet been determined, although India will host the ODI World Cup.
The ACB CEO, Naseeb Khan, stated, “We are delighted with our interactions and the conclusion of our conversations with Sri Lanka Cricket regarding this event. “The ACB is committed to setting up more bilateral series with the other boards in addition to a comprehensive ICC Future Tours Program. We are working hard to set up more bilateral cricket for our national team in the run-up to the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023, which is one of our goals.
“Our previous tour to Sri Lanka was an incredible experience in which both countries played competitive cricket, and we are looking forward to engaging in some high-voltage cricket this time as well,” the cricketer continued.
The most recent time Afghanistan visited Sri Lanka was in November of last year, when they competed in a three-match ICC Cricket World Cup Super League ODI series against the hosts. Afghanistan split the series with the other team, winning the first game by 60 runs before falling short in the decider by four wickets. The second, one-day game was canceled.
