According to former India head coach Ravi Shastri, all-rounder Hardik Pandya will be in charge of the upcoming T20 World Cup, which will take place in the United States and the West Indies in 2024. India’s captain in all three forms is Rohit Sharma, although since India was eliminated from the T20 World Cup 2022 after falling to England in the semi-final, he hasn’t participated in a single T20 international.
India has played eight T20Is since the World Cup, with Pandya serving as the team’s captain in each game. Of those eight games, India has won five of them, lost two, and tied one. Shastri stated that the selectors would like to take a fresh approach and include youthful talent in the squad when discussing the upcoming T20 World Cup.
“Everyone can play, but I predict Hardik will be in the lead.” After the ODI World Cup in 2023, there will be two T20 World Cups. He already serves as India’s [standby T20I] captain, so unless he becomes unfit, he will continue. I believe the selections will take a different approach. The young people today have a lot of talent. ESPNCricinfo quoted Shastri as saying, “You might have a pretty new team; there will be some new faces, if not a new team.”
There will still be many players from India’s most recent T20I match, but there will also be some new faces because of the exciting young talent we’ve seen in this year’s IPL, according to Shastri.
The 60-year-old added that India would follow the same procedure as the 2007 T20 World Cup, where experienced players like Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly, and Rahul Dravid declined to participate and selectors instead chose a young team for the major competition. Under MS Dhoni’s leadership, the team’s experiment paid off as India went on to win the 2007 T20 World Cup.
I predict they’ll follow the 2007 pattern: Vijay Shastri
“I believe they will follow the 2007 strategy, where they will find talent and give Hardik many options when making the selection. Because he has played in the IPL as a franchise captain and has observed many of the other players, his opinions will be different. The 1983 World Cup champion stated that he would contribute.
Shastri responded, “Of course,” when asked if Hardik should discuss the older players’ futures with the T20I team. Considering that he will be the one to escort the boys to the park,. Every word he says must be taken seriously and heeded.
