Former India off-spinner Harbhajan Singh discussed the future of Indian cricket and his vision for constructing the Indian Twenty20 team. Harbhajan highlighted the potential of several rising talents, including Shubman Gill, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Tilak Varma, and Rinku Singh.
Harbhajan’s strategic recommendations shed light on the promising future of Indian cricket by emphasizing the importance of cultivating youth and constructing a dynamic team. Additionally, the former player suggested that Gill could be one of India’s prospective captaincy candidates.
“If we’re discussing batsmen, I can state that Shubman Gill has potential. In addition to him, I believe Yashasvi has the potential to be India’s future,” Harbhajan told Star Sports. I believe Yashasvi Jaiswal is this year’s most remarkable player, and he will play for Team India in the years to come. Shubman Gill will also be present; he may even serve as captain. I’m discussing the future here. And I believe Tilak Varma and Rinku Singh will also be there, so I am assembling a squad for the Indian team’s future. They all possess incredible aptitude.”
Harbhajan also expressed his thoughts on India’s T20I captaincy, suggesting that Hardik Pandya should immediately integrate the IPL-performing youth players into the international lineup. However, the former spinner did not specify which of the current players should make room for Jaiswal, Rinku, and Gill in the Indian team.
“Given the present state of the team and the desire to move in the direction of youth, Yashasvi Jaiswal is the best available option. When we lost last year’s T20 World Cup in Dubai, there was widespread speculation that we should construct our team around younger players.
“I believe Yashasvi Jaiswal, Rinku Singh, and Shubhman Gill, under the captaincy of Hardik Pandya, should be part of an entirely new team.
Hardik should be the captain and Yashasvi Jaiswal and Gill should open the innings, along with Ruturaj Gaikwad, Rinku Singh, Tilak Varma, and Nitish Rana,” said Harbhajan.
