Hardik Pandya’s Gujarat Titans (GT) stormed into the IPL final after a big win against Mumbai Indians in Qualifier 2. They will play the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) on Sunday, May 28, at the famous Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
Hardik Pandya and his team are in their second final in a row and will play CSK, which has won the title four times, for the title. Fans at the site and people watching the final online will all be hoping to see a full-fledged game between the two heavyweights.
But it’s important to note that it rained at the spot in Ahmedabad right before the Qualifier 2 match between Gujarat and Mumbai.
We take a look at what the IPL management has said will happen if the CSK vs. GT Final match is rained out, since it will be played at the same place on Sunday.
What will happen if the final between CSK and GT is rained out?
AccuWeather predicts that there will be 56% cloud cover and a 61% chance of rain in the evening. “BBC Weather” says that the weather is expected to stay windy and have a humidity level of 48% during the Final.
If the rain gods show up and ruin the game, which is a bad thing that could happen, a backup day is set aside, and the game will be played the next day, on May 29th, at 8:00 pm. Also, an extra 120 minutes have been added to the backup day.
Also, if necessary, the number of overs will be cut so that each team gets to bat for at least five overs. For a five-over-per-side game, the deadline for the top clash will be 12:26 am.
If the game has already begun (at least one ball has been hit) on the first day (May 28), it will be finished on the next day (May 29). The rules say that the game will pick up where it left off the day before.
If the toss happens on the set day (May 28) and there is no play afterward, a new 20-over per side match will start on the reserve day with a new throw. Teams will also be able to switch which side they play on. If even a five-overs-per-side match can’t happen, a Super Over for the final can start at the latest at 1:20 a.m.
