In the current season of the Indian Premier League, the Gujarat Titans’ young Indian speedster Shubman Gill is shattering records with each game. Gill has hit more sixes in IPL 2023 than in his previous three seasons combined.
Shubman Gill reclaimed the Orange Cap by surpassing Faf du Plessis’s aggregate in this year’s tournament during the must-win match against the Mumbai Indians. The 23-year-old batsman blasted ten sixes in Ahmedabad, bringing his season total to 33 sixes, which is more than the 32 sixes he hit in his previous three seasons combined.
The opener for the Gujarat Titans dominated the Mumbai bowlers, particularly the slower ones, in a T20 batting masterclass. After the conclusion of the powerplay, the cricketer from Punjab accelerated dramatically. Since making his debut in 2018, he has hit eighty-six in the tournament’s history thanks to his innings.
Shubman Gill has placed his sights on Jos Buttler‘s IPL scoring record.
Gill smashed the highest total by a Gujarat Titans batsman in IPL history with 129 runs off of only 60 deliveries. It was also the greatest individual score by a batter in the playoffs, surpassing the previous record held by former Indian opener Virender Sehwag. Gill hit the most sixes by a GT batsman in an IPL innings during his time at the crease, a total of ten.
Only former Indian captain Virat Kohli and England’s white-ball icon Jos Buttler have scored more than 850 runs in a single season of the Indian Premier League. Gill is just 12 runs away from emulating Buttler’s record for the second-highest run total in an IPL season.
