Before the much-anticipated World Test Championship (WTC) Final against India, veteran Australian batter David Warner made news by saying he wanted to retire. After the series against Pakistan in January 2024, the southpaw plans to end his long and successful Test career at home.
David Warner has been an important part of the Test team since 2011, but his spot on the team has been in question for the last year and a half because of his poor batting. Warner, who is 36 years old, is getting ready for the June 7 match against India at the Oval.
After the match against India, Pat Cummins’s Australia will play England in the Ashes later this month. This will be a very exciting game. The experienced hitter said that he still wants to play in the T20 World Cup in 2024, but he might end his Test career with a home series against Pakistan in January 2019, before the Windies series, so he can spend more time with his family.
“You have to get runs. I’ve always said that the T20 World Cup in 2024 would likely be my last game. I probably owe it to myself and my family. If I can score runs here and keep playing back in Australia, I won’t be going to the West Indies. Warner told reporters in Beckenham on Saturday, “I will definitely retire after the Pakistan series if I can get through the WTC final and the next Ashes campaign.”

Warner has played in 103 tests. He is seventh on Australia’s all-time list of red-ball cricket run makers and has been a great player for the national team in all types of games. In the last few months, he has been dealing with issues about his ban from being a leader, which has also brought him down. Even though his Test career is over, the southpaw is excited about the ODI and T20 World Cups in 2023 and 2024.
