Before the ODI World Cup, which will be held in India in October and November, a lot of work is being done to the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi.
Five ODI World Cup games will be played there in 2023. The move is a response to the fact that the venue was criticised earlier this year for being dirty, especially in the bathrooms.
In April, India’s highest cricketing authority, the BCCI, did a Gap analysis and found that Delhi, along with Hyderabad, Kolkata, Mumbai, and Mohali, was one of the five places that needed a major renovation. A gap analysis shows the differences between how the organisation is right now and how it wants to be in the future.
In India, cricket has become very famous in the last ten years, and the BCCI has made billions of dollars from broadcast rights. But most stadiums in India don’t have even the most basic comforts, so the fans are often forgotten.
The joint president of the Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA), Rajan Manchanda, said that the DDCA is committed to improving stadium infrastructure so that fans can have a great time at the big event.
“We have big plans to improve the facilities,” Manchanda told The Indian Express. “We will change the seats for spectators, fix up the bathrooms, paint the walls, and change the software for selling tickets.”
The Arun Jaitley Stadium can hold up to 35,000 people, and Manchanda says that the DDCA will repair about 10,000 seats and update the 15-year-old turnstiles at the stadium.
“We have to give our fans clean bathrooms, food that is safe to eat, and water at a fair price. Also, the number of people on the cleaning team will grow. “We want to be done with everything by September 15,” Manchanda said.
According to reports, teams from the BCCI and the International Cricket Council (ICC) will do a thorough recce of the Arun Jaitley Stadium in the third week of July. They will check the pitch and outfield to make sure the stadium meets the top standards.
Even though the weather isn’t too bad in October and November, spectators will still be exposed to the sun because the open stands can’t be covered with a roof. This is because any major changes to the design of the building would require tearing it down and starting over.
On October 7, South Africa will play against a Qualifier team in Delhi’s first game. When India and Afghanistan play each other on October 11, it might be the biggest game ever played here. Afghanistan will also play England at Arun Jaitley on October 14. On October 25, Australia will play against Q1, and on November 6, Bangladesh will play against Q2.
