Veteran off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin was lauded in great detail by team India bowling coach Paras Mhambrey for his remarkable performance in the first Test match against the West Indies at Windsor Park in Dominica. Thanks to Ashwin’s 12 wickets, India overcame the West Indies by an innings and 141 runs on Day 3 of the first Test.
Paras Mhambrey believes that Ashwin is among the best match-winners the Indian team has ever produced. He went on to remark that while there haven’t been many match-winning players like him, the veteran has aided the club on numerous occasions.
“As a team, we understand how important R Ashwin is. He is the best match-winner India has ever had, in my opinion. Few match-winners like his have ever existed.
What can I say about the number of games he has helped us win?,”Paras Mhambrey was quoted as saying by Indian express.
Ashwin and Jadeja bowled admirably after being introduced later: Paras Mhambrey Mhambrey continued by saying that after looking at the statistics of the local games, he and the other coaching staff concluded that as the game progressed, the spinners would benefit from the surface and the batsmen would have difficulty. The 51-year-old went on to remark that teams have occasionally had the option of batting for extended durations, and India has done just that in the past, creating the conditions for the bowlers to succeed later. He continued by praising Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja’s effort, which was essential to their victory.
“Day 1 of our visit was a little dry, and when we looked at the statistics of the local games, we saw that spinners dominated those matches. We believed that as the game went on, batting would become challenging. Another consideration was how we used the surface.
They and we both took the field to bat, and there were times when teams could have batted for greater stretches than we did. This laid the groundwork for the bowlers to subsequently arrive and perform. The way Ashwin and Jadeja bowled after coming on later is commendable, the former cricketer continued.
