Virender Sehwag, a legendary Indian batsman, predicts that Rohit Sharma would succeed at the much anticipated ICC Cricket World Cup 2023. The event will take place in India from October 5 to November 19, with the curtain-raiser at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad including the two World Cup champions from 2019. At Chennai’s MA Chidambaram Stadium on October 8, the hosts will begin their campaign against the five-time champions Australia.
Despite India being eliminated in the semifinals, Rohit had a strong tournament in 2019, finishing first in the run charts and smashing five century. During the last iteration of the premier tournament, he scored a total of 648 runs from nine matches, a staggering average of 81.00.
Virender Sehwag said that the opening hitters in the upcoming World Cup will score a lot of runs while speaking to the ICC (International Cricket Council).
The 44-year-old predicted that Rohit will score the most runs during the competition, pointing out that the Indian captain has more energy during tournaments like the ODI World Cup.
“I’ll go with Rohit Sharma because he performs better and has more enthusiasm throughout World Cups. Thus, I’m confident that he is a captain this time as well. Therefore, I am confident that he will contribute and score a lot of runs,” Sehwag stated to the ICC.
Rohit should reach two centuries and one daddy hundred as the opener if he plays all nine games: Aakash Chopra
The former India opener Aakash Chopra also predicted that Rohit Sharma would have a significant impact on the upcoming World Cup. The 45-year-old went on to say that if the India captain plays in all of the games, he should hit two century and one daddy hundred as the opener.
“I believe there will be a lot of openers since India has a fantastic wicket and will give openers more opportunity. If I had to choose just one, I would choose Rohit Sharma. There are a few names, but because I should choose an Indian as I am one, I will go with Rohit Sharma.
“When we talk about the top three, it seems like who is better than us? Sare jahan se acha Hindustan hamara (Better than all the others, our India) – you get a feeling like that from within because we have Shubman Gill alongside Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli will come after them,” Chopra said in a video on his YouTube channel.
Over 9800 runs have been scored by Rohit Sharma. He has a strike rate of 90, an average of nearly 49, and 30 centuries to his credit. In Asia, it’s almost analogous. So you may anticipate that Rohit Sharma would strike you. He should record two centuries and one daddy hundred as his opening score if he participates in all nine games. I anticipate that,” he continued.
