India-Pakistan’s matchup on Disney+Hotstar records a record 2.8 crore concurrent users during the 2023 Asia Cup

Jay Shah, the secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), used his social media account to make a special post after the match between India-Pakistan attracted record-breaking viewership.

Notably, on the first day of the Asia Cup 2023 Super Four stage, the Rohit Sharma-led team India defeated Pakistan by an enormous margin of 228 runs.

It goes without saying that the intense competition between the bitter rivals attracts a lot of interest from cricket enthusiasts. But on September 11, the digital broadcasting service “Disney+ Hotstar” broke all prior records for an India match with record viewership during the match. On his ‘X’ handle, the BCCI secretary made a particular mention of the record-breaking viewership to continue the theme.

The biggest number of concurrent users ever recorded for an India match on the internet was for today’s India-Pakistan  match on @DisneyPlusHS (2.8 Crore). The previous record was set by the #INDvsNZ 2019 @cricketworldcup semi final, which had 2.52 million concurrent users. Jay Shah announced this on his ‘X’ (formerly Twitter) account.

When it comes to the game, the Indian top order’s magnificent knocks helped set the tone for the encounter. Rohit and Shubman Gill both scored 56 and 58 runs to help the innings get off to a strong start.

The Men in Blue reached 356 thanks to an unbroken 233-run stand between Virat Kohli and KL Rahul, though. As Kohli broke numerous milestones, including the quickest time to 13,000 ODI runs, the shortest time to a 47th ODI century and a 77th century overall, and the joint-fastest time to a century in an Indian victory, many records were broken.

The Delhi-born batsman, who scored 122 runs in just 94 balls while striking at a strike rate of 129.78, was also named Player of the Match for his undefeated innings. After the victory, team India will play Sri Lanka in their upcoming Super Four game and will be aiming for a favourable outcome to advance to the top match.
