India defeated Australia in the second ODI to win the series in Indore. While it may be encouraging to see most of the players performing well, it has made it difficult for the selectors to decide on the final 11. Abhishek Nayar, a former Indian cricketer, agrees that Ravi Ashwin’s outstanding performance in Australia’s ODIs has added to the confusion.
Abhishek Nayar, a former cricketer for India, provided his analysis of Ravi Ashwin’s performance against Australia during a post-match discussion on Jio Cinema.
“The issue of whether he is the ideal replacement was never in discussion. It was merely a test to see if he still had it in him to play this format after a long absence and how he fares in it. And he has shown that. It’s good to see that he’s only improved.
David Warner gave him a different challenge today, continuing to move from left to right and vice versa. But as soon as he began utilising the carrom ball, he took three wickets. So, this merely proves that, despite being an off-spinner, he can bowl to both left- and right-handers when necessary. So, in my opinion, he has made things a little bit more confusing for Rohit, the selectors, and the support team. Who they choose from the two is going to be interesting.
Nayar offered his opinion on India’s performance as a whole as well. “Ticked every box. I doubt there is anything you could want more. We were hoping to see everyone prosper. Shreyas Iyer, who got a century, was the greatest question heading into this game. With this knowledge, India entered the World Cup confident that they could win the series despite the absence of their top five players. Just knowing that there is enough depth and that everyone is in good shape is encouraging for India’s future.
